Valborg - winter is finally gone

We see people in our neighborhood are all outside, lighting up fire, preparing BBQ, singing, dancing, drinking.

Swedish people celebrate Valborg on 30 April. In past this used to be an event of lighting big fires with the believe that the big bonfires scare away bad spirits. Among farmers and peasants, it was an important day in the calendar as the annual village meeting was held, with eggs and schnapps as refreshments. Much like our Pohela boishakh I guess. Nowadays, it is about celebrating that winter is finally gone and spring has arrived!

Well I can see winter is gone. The weather is pleasant, warm, bright. It is 21.00 now and I see full sunlight.

Goodbye winter! Welcome spring!
