Students taking the Market Research for Business Decisions course visited the Luleå Energy Arena, which is home of the most successful and elite basketball club of Sweden - Luleå Basket. The club won the Swedish women's national basketball championship five years in a raw, from 2014 to 2018. Club director Christer Sehlin welcomed us, briefed us about the club and gave a tour around the whole arena.
Founded in 1979, Luleå Basket, represents the whole Norrbotten region of Sweden. The vision of the club is to remain as Sweden's leading women club and become a leading club in Europe.
Despite being the most successful basketball club, the number of ticket sales is not something the club management is happy about. The club attracts only 1721 people on average when the capacity of the stadium is 2,800. The low turnover may be is a consequence of the competition it faces from ice hockey and other sports. Other entertainment options such as movies, theaters and TV series are also competitions.
